Testing
I am so proud of all of our children!  They have made a wonderful adjustment to kindergarten.  Next week will be very busy for us.  The Kindergartners will be taking  NWEA tests.  My class will be testing Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Please help your child do his/her best by making sure he/she gets plenty of sleep and a hardy breakfast.  We are also completing out MClass testing next week.

Student of the Week
We started  Student of the Week this week.  We will showcase one student each week.  When it is your child's turn, you will receive a poster and a letter explaining the activities for the week.  On Friday, your child will take home Coconut for the weekend.  Please help your child complete a page in Coconut's travel journal.

Super Kid Cards
As positive reinforcement for good behavior, each child has a Super Kid Card.  The children can receive a punch on their card for good behavior, personal  best work, good manners, kindness to others, etc.  After 15 punches, he/she can get a prize from the prize drawers.  If you would like to make a donation to our prize collection, small items like those used for birthday goody bags would be appreciated.  No food, please.

Thank you for all your support getting our year off to a successful start.  Have a great weekend!

We Made It...September 2, 2011
We made it through our first full week of kindergarten!  I am so pleased with how quickly the children have gotten into the routine.  Today your child will be bringing home a book order. There is no obligation to place an order, but our classroom benefits from every order received.  Even better, if you order online we get $3 to spend.  Orders are due next Friday, Sept. 9th.  Have a great weekend!

A big thanks to the parents who donated prizes for our Super Kids Behavior System.  The kids are so proud when they finish a card and receive a prize.

Small Reading Groups
We have been practicing centers for the last 2 weeks.  Next week we are going to add small reading groups that will meet with me on a weekly basis.  They groups will be based on the results of the Mclass testing.  These groups will be fluid and children may be changing groups occasionally based on classroom performance.  Once a week I will be sending home a reader for your child to read to you at home.  Please make sure these readers are returned the next day as I will need them for other groups.  Though some books may appear to be too easy for your child, remember that comprehension is a key component to our program and these books allow us to enhance comprehension skills.

Math Homelinks
I will be sending homelinks home when they relate to classroom skills.  These do not have to be returned.  These activities will reinforce what I am teaching in the classroom.

Handwriting
Handwriting homework will begin on Monday.  Please follow the daily homework as listed.  On review weeks, your child will not be getting handwriting homework.  In addition to handwriting homework sheets, please continue to practice your child's name, emphasizing starting with an uppercase letter and writing the rest in lowercase.  Thank you.

In Closing...
Thanks to everyone for your support this year.  Full time kindergarten has been a challenge to everyone, but we can already see the benefits for our students.  Have a great weekend!
