Homework

TAKE HOME READERS AND ACTIVITIES
On Fridays, students  bring home a short four page story pertaining to the unit.  The sight words and letter/letter sounds we  are working on are  incorporated in to the story for practice. Accompanying this reader is a short activity that is focusing on skills we have worked on during the week.  This assignment gives a glimpse of the comprehension, phonics and reading strategies that we are working on in the classroom. Return these activities the following Mondays.  The readers are for you to keep!

FAMILY PROJECT
During our family unit, we want to get to know the families in our classroom. Each family should have received a homework page to add to our class book.  If you have any questions about the directions, please let your child's teacher know.  We will share each child's page as it comes in. When we have added all of the pages to the book, your child will have a chance to read it in our classroom libraries. Remember to fill both sides.  Please turn in your family page no later than  10.14.11.  Thank you for helping to support our understanding of families!

HANDWRITING
On 9.26.11 students began handwriting homework.  On the weeks that we introduce/revisit a new letter, students will bring home a handwriting page with that letter.  Please only spend 5 minutes per night on their assignment.  Although it may be tempting to hurry up and finish all of the letters in one night, it really is best to spend short-quick times focusing on handwriting skills. Also, please practice handwriting in pencil.  Also another helpful hint is 5 good/neat/well spaced  letters is more beneficial than trying to cram 10 on a line.

Mondays-Practice the letter in the air.
Tuesdays-Practice the letter in the box.
Wednesday-Practice the uppercase letter.
Thursday-Practice the lowercase letter.
Friday- Practice both upper and lower case letters .

MATH TAKE -HOME BOOKS
Today, 9.21.11, students brought home math take-home books.  These books are great because they supplement what we are doing in the classroom math program.  These activities are great ideas for focusing on math in our everyday lives.  There are four books in all.  The great thing is, you can work at your own pace.  When your child is done with a book, fill out a slip and return it to school. We will send home a new book until you have completed all four.   Your child's teacher has a special way of recognizing your child's efforts for completing each book.

Happy homelinking!

 Math Home Links
Math home links are now coming home.  Please look for specific information to come home from your child's teacher!

 Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Our first home work assignment was sent home at orientation!  The assignment was to take the coconut that was sent home the orientation folder and decorate it anyway that your child would like.  Make sure to return it to school as we will be talking about each child's coconut as a "getting to know you" activity.  Then, we will hang each coconut on our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree. Have Fun!
